1. Mai vàng – Biểu tượng mùa xuân của đất cố đô

Ở Huế, có bao nhiêu loại mai vàng, mai vàng từ lâu đã được xem là biểu tượng đặc trưng của mùa xuân. Không chỉ đơn thuần là một loài hoa, mai vàng còn mang trong mình giá trị văn hóa, tinh thần và thẩm mỹ đặc biệt. Cây mai xứ Huế nổi tiếng khắp cả nước bởi dáng thế thanh nhã, cánh hoa vàng rực rỡ, bền màu và lâu tàn hơn hẳn các giống mai vùng khác. Tuy nhiên, chính vì đặc tính “khó tính” của giống cây này mà việc trồng, chăm sóc và tạo dáng cho mai Huế trở thành một thú chơi kỳ công, đòi hỏi nhiều tâm huyết và kỹ năng của người trồng.

Cây mai vàng Huế được người dân nơi đây xem như một phần linh hồn của đất cố đô. Mỗi dịp Tết đến xuân về, không gian trầm mặc, cổ kính của xứ Huế dường như bừng sáng hơn nhờ sắc vàng tinh khiết của những cánh mai nở rộ bên những ngôi nhà rêu phong, bên dòng Hương thơ mộng.

2. Hai phương thức trồng mai đặc trưng

Mai vàng ở Huế được trồng theo hai hình thức chính: trồng ngoài đất và trồng trong chậu.

Đối với mai trồng ngoài đất, người trồng chủ yếu chú trọng vào việc nuôi cành, tạo tán và phát triển thân lá cân đối. Mục tiêu chính là có một cây mai khỏe mạnh, dáng đẹp, tán tỏa đều. Còn với mai trồng trong chậu, yêu cầu công phu hơn rất nhiều. Một cây mai chậu ở Huế phải mất từ 8 đến 10 năm mới đạt mức “tạm chơi được”, và chỉ những cây có tuổi đời trên 30 năm mới thực sự được xem là quý, đủ tiêu chuẩn để đem trưng bày tại các hội chợ xuân hoặc triển lãm cây cảnh.

Thú chơi mai chậu của người Huế không chỉ là niềm vui, mà còn là nghệ thuật. Mỗi gốc mai trong chậu là một tác phẩm được nhào nặn qua thời gian, từ bộ rễ (đế), thân, cành đến tán lá đều mang dấu ấn riêng của người trồng.

3. Sinh kế từ nghề trồng mai

Nghề trồng mai đã trở thành kế sinh nhai cho nhiều nhà vườn ở Huế. Ở vùng ngoại ô, nơi có diện tích đất rộng, nông dân thường tập trung vào ươm mai giống. Sau khi mùa hoa kết thúc, họ chọn những cây mai khỏe mạnh, có hoa đẹp để lấy hạt giống. Các hạt này được đem về ươm trong giá thể gồm trấu, sơ dừa, vỏ đậu phộng trộn với chế phẩm vi sinh Trichoderma Bima của Công ty CP Bình Điền – Mekong.

Khi cây con phát triển ổn định, nhà vườn sử dụng phân hữu cơ Đầu Trâu HCMK7 (dạng 1kg hoặc 5kg) để giúp rễ phát triển khỏe. Sau khoảng một tháng, cây được chuyển sang giai đoạn bón phân NPK với các loại như NPK 17-15-7+TE, Đầu Trâu Đa năng (NPK 17-12-7) và NPK 30-10-10. Phân được hòa loãng với nước theo tỉ lệ 1kg/200–400 lít nước, bón cách nhau khoảng 15 ngày.

Nhờ quy trình chăm sóc khoa học này, những vườn mai giống ở Huế không chỉ đáp ứng nhu cầu trong tỉnh mà còn được nhiều tỉnh miền Trung và miền Nam tìm mua.

4. Kỳ công với mai chậu – nghệ thuật của sự kiên trì

Với những nhà vườn trong nội thành, do diện tích hạn chế, họ thường ưu tiên trồng mai chậu. Tuy nhiên, đây lại là công việc đòi hỏi sự kiên trì, tỉ mỉ và nhiều năm chăm sóc. Để có được một cây mai chậu đẹp, phải mất ít nhất 3 năm tạo bộ rễ và dáng ban đầu, và hơn 10 năm mới đạt giá trị thực sự.

Khâu chọn giống là bước quan trọng nhất. Nhà vườn phải chọn từng hạt từ cây mẹ có hoa đẹp, cánh dày, màu vàng tươi và bộ lá khỏe mạnh. Cây giống được ươm trong chậu nhựa với giá thể gồm vỏ trấu, sơ dừa, vỏ đậu phộng, cùng chế phẩm vi sinh Bima (Trichoderma).

Trong quá trình trồng, người trồng thường phun sản phẩm Đầu Trâu MK 501 định kỳ 7–10 ngày/lần để cây phát triển tán đều và lá bóng mượt. Đặc biệt, do mai trồng chậu dễ bị bọ trĩ tấn công, nhà vườn Huế thường sử dụng Imburad 300WP (gói 20g cho bình 20 lít nước) để phòng trừ hiệu quả.

Sau 3 năm, cây mai được đưa sang chậu xi măng lớn để phát triển bộ rễ (đế) và tạo dáng. Đây là giai đoạn quan trọng nhất, quyết định đến giá trị thẩm mỹ của cây. Nhà vườn sẽ tiến hành cắt tỉa, uốn cành, chỉnh tán sao cho hài hòa, cân đối.

5. Phân bón và kỹ thuật tạo dáng

Trong giai đoạn chăm sóc chuyên sâu, nhà vườn tiếp tục sử dụng Đầu Trâu HCMK7 để duy trì độ màu mỡ của đất. Sau khi thay chậu, cây được tưới bằng MK Roots (ĐT MK 001) và Super Roots (ĐT MK Phomic) nhằm kích thích rễ mới phát triển. Khi cây ổn định, tiếp tục bón phân NPK với các loại NPK 17-15-7+TE, Đầu Trâu Đa năng, hoặc NPK 30-10-10 tùy giai đoạn sinh trưởng.

Công đoạn tạo dáng mai chậu Huế được xem như một nghệ thuật. Mỗi nhà vườn có phong cách riêng: có người chuộng dáng “trực quân tử” mạnh mẽ, có người lại thích dáng “ngũ phúc” tượng trưng cho thịnh vượng, hạnh phúc. Mỗi cành, mỗi thế mai đều được cân nhắc, uốn nắn với sự tỉ mỉ và tình yêu đặc biệt dành cho loài cây này.

6. Mai vàng Huế – Vẻ đẹp của văn hóa và thời gian

Mai vàng xứ Huế không chỉ là một loại cây cảnh hay sản phẩm thương mại, mà còn là một phần di sản văn hóa phi vật thể của vùng đất cố đô. Nó chứa đựng tinh thần kiên trì, tỉ mỉ và tình yêu thiên nhiên của người dân nơi đây. Mỗi cây mai là kết tinh của thời gian, công sức và nghệ thuật – một biểu tượng sống động của vẻ đẹp thanh khiết, bền bỉ và trường tồn.

Nhờ bàn tay và tấm lòng của những nghệ nhân trồng mai xứ Huế, sắc vàng ấy vẫn tươi mãi mỗi độ xuân về, làm nên một nét đẹp riêng biệt, vừa thanh tao, vừa sâu lắng – như chính tâm hồn con người và đất trời nơi đây.
