Waltham Forest Community Hub is a charity that provides support to local young people aged 11 to 21 years and senior citizens.  We also offer telephone befriending and a housing advice service for the residents of Waltham Forest.  We also have a beautiful community building for hire. This year we will be 17 years old and are going from strength to strength.


This is a very exciting time for our charity.  We have grown recently and need the help of an amazing administrator to support our busy team.  You will love administration and will work directly with our Operations Manager (who also loves administration!) to provide essential office support to managing our building.  You will have excellent IT and office administration  skills.  As the ‘face’ of venue bookings, you will promote hire of our venue and will deliver superb customer service to ensure our customers feel great about our venue and want to come back.  The role is varied and you will dip your toes into other aspects of the work of our charity.

VOLUNTEER TITLE:  Telephone Befriender


MAJOR OBJECTIVE OF TASK/PROJECT: To to improve the lives of those within our community, through interaction, engagement and empowerment by offering regular telephone calls to isolated senior citizens in Waltham Forest.

VOLUNTEER RESPONSIBILITIES: To make weekly calls to senior citizens to chat about everyday life.


Telephone befrienders usually call the same individuals each week, sometimes at the same time, to provide a listening ear and to monitor general well-being. 


Where applicable offer information, informal companionship and advice.


Link people to local groups and services that may help them.


Potentially help to spot, protect and support older people who are suffering from abuse or neglect.


Report any concerns to WFCHub Befriending Team.


Adhere to Waltham Forest Community Hub confidentiality policy  


Working from WFCHub office to make the calls.


To undertake required record keeping procedures including updating excel spreadsheet to monitor calls made.


TRAINING: To participate in support/information meetings and one to one supervision meetings


Attend relevant training courses/workshops including safeguarding.


TIME COMMITMENT:  Weekly for 3 months


HOURS/DAYS:    To volunteer for around 3 hours a week.


DAYS: Any weekday


LOCATION:  WF Community Hub, 18a Orford Road, Walthamstow E17 9LN 


SUPERVISION: Direct supervision will be given by the Volunteer Co-ordinator or designated supervisor
