Waltham Forest Community Hub closes the year with a bang!
On the 21st December 2015, the Waltham Forest Community Hub held a sit down Christmas lunch party for local Sheltered Housing residents aged 55+ and their carer’s. This was a part of the Senior Citizen's Project, which was initially funded by the Community Development Foundation. Raffle prizes were kindly donated by local residents and businesses.
There was a very good number of attendees and we can proudly claim that the party was an overwhelming success! The general consensus was that we had done a mighty fine job in catering for the needs of the people. Amongst the 80 plus strong crowd there were also distinguished guests present, including; Stella Creasy MP, the Mayor of London Borough of Waltham Forest Councillor Saima Mahmud, Councillor Clare Coghill, Councillor Gerry Lyons and Sue Carter of the Walthamstow Village Resident’s Association who showed tremendous support to us. Mr Afzal Malik was also in attendance to represent the Board of Trustees of Waltham Forest Community Hub.
Young People from the Village Youth Club, a youth provision run by the Waltham Forest Community Hub, helped serve the food on the day but their role was not just limited to that. Once serving the guests at their assigned table, they sat down with the guests and engaged in dialogue to help bridge the gap between the young and the old. The Young People played a huge role in the smooth running of the day and did us all very proud.
Our organisation is hugely dependent on committed individuals. Whether it be; staff, volunteers, young people, users or supporters/well wishers and I would like to take this opportunity to thank those who made this day such a successful and enjoyable one especially all the young people, Muhammad Ali our in house volunteer chef and finally Tommy Anderson who worked tirelessly to help part-coordinate this party.
Finally, a very special thank you to the Walthamstow Village Resident’s Association who very generously donated £250 towards the Senior Citizen’s Project.
Happy Holidays from everyone at the Waltham Forest Community Hub and we’ll hopefully see you in the New Year!
